Help Wanted--Mentors too!
Are you looking to fill a few odd hours while bringing a smile to your kid's face and others too? Do you have a special useful talent that is not being used? Need some community involvement to enrich that resume of yours? Well look no further.... This is the right position for you. Flexible hours, chance to make new friends, great benefits and a wealth of gratitude awaits you. We are still looking to fill a few spots for this year's programs. If you have an interest in helping out on any of the following programs please let us know. If you want to help out but don't see a spot to utilize your special talent, well let us know how you would like to help out and we will see if we can make it happen for you! Apply in person at the Ice Cream Social, or at eastantiochpantherpta@gmail.com, or with a comment below.
If you have been on a committee before and would like to mentor a new committee please let us know, your wealth of information and insight would be greatly appreciated.
Book Fair—Still need 2-3 more people to help out Jodee Taylor.
Carnival—Need 3-5 people to head this up.
Cultural Arts—Need 1-2 people to head this up.
Field Day—Need 1 person to work with the P.E. Teacher.
Fun Run—Need 3-5 people to head this up.
Hospitality—Need 3 or more to head this up.
Sidewalk Chalk—Need 2-3 people to head this up.

6th Grade Celebration—Would like to have a 6th grade parent head this up and would be nice to get a few 5th grade parents to help out. This way you get to learn what you need to do and then you can help out on the day of the event. Next year you would be planning it and passing on the torch to the next 5th grade parents.

Membership Drive
East Antioch Elementary PTA Membership Drive Goal is 100% Participation.
PTA is a partnership between parents and educators who strive to enhance student learning and enrich the lives of the students within the school. It is also a forum for parents to obtain knowledge and voice their opinions about what is happening in their school.
A common misconception about the PTA is that all they do is organize fundraisers and school events. Fund raising is an important and integral part of the PTA. The funds raised by PTA help support many needed programs within the school. But, you don't have to like or be good at fund raising to participate in the PTA. By being a member of and attending PTA meetings you provide a voice as to how the funds that are raised should be spent within our school.
Why Join PTA?
The number-one reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. But there are many more advantages. Here are just a few:
Get Connected. There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school.
Discover Great Resources. The PTA offers a variety of programs designed for parents as well as students.
Tap into a Network. PTA functions provide opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, build rapport and discuss parenting issues that are on your mind.
Watch yourself Grow. By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences and personal confidence. It’s an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use for a good cause.
Speak Up. Because PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions and more effectively suggest change at your child’s school.
Help Your Child Succeed. PTA fosters parent involvement. Parent involvement has been proven by three decades of research to be the greatest predictor of student success.
Witness Improvement. By getting involved at your child’s school you’ll be part of the solution, helping to make positive changes. Local PTAs play an important role in fund raising to provide building improvements, curriculum-based programs, social events – all vital to a school’s success.
Be a Role Model. By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.
Memberships
$7.00 for a single membership or $10.00 for a family membership.
Opt Out Fund Raising
For $25.00 per child in donations you can disregard all fund raising information that is sent home, knowing you already did your part. We will also do our best to make sure fund raising information does not get sent home.
Corporate Memberships/Sponsorships
We are also starting a Corporate membership/sponsorship this year. So if you could ask your employer if they would like to join our community that would be greatly appreciated. For more information please see out page on Corporate Sponsorship Information.

Three For Me Volunteer Time
Parent involvement is crucial to the health and well-being of a child. As a parent, you are the most important influence in your child's success in school and in life. In this role, you have a fresh opportunity every day to get involved with your child.

Happy Birthday America
July 4, 2010 is the 234th Birthday of our great nation and regardless of your political point of view the Declaration of Independence is important to us all. It is the frame work of our government and the Constitution of the United States. So if you are looking to do something different with the family this year, then take a few moments and read the Declaration of Independence and maybe even the Constitution with your kids. I am sure most of you have not taken the time to do this for a very long time. So turn this July 4th into a learning experience for your family. Who knows, maybe you will start a new family tradition. If you want a real treat visit the Library of Congress and see the rough draft of the Declaration for your self.

Summer Goes So Fast!
Can you believe it we are almost halfway through summer break! 4th of July is coming up and we thought we would pass on a few safety tips to help your family enjoy the holiday.
-Always have a bucket of water and a hose nearby in case of accidents.
— fireworks can backfire or shoot off in the wrong direction, so never throw or point fireworks at someone.
-Don't hold fireworks in your hand or have any part of your body over them when lighting them.
-Always point fireworks away from homes, and keep away from brush and leaves and flammable substances.
-Soak all fireworks in a bucket of water before throwing them in the trash can.
-If you or your child gets injured by fireworks, immediately go to a doctor or hospital. If an eye injury occurs, don't touch or rub it, this can cause even more damage. Do not flush the eye out with water or attempt to put any ointment on it, immediately seek medical attention. If it's a burn, remove clothing from the burned area and run cool, not cold, water over the burned (do not use ice). Call your doctor immediately.
If you are going to be in an area where it is legal to set off fireworks please remember thee quick tips. Another thing to keep in mind is that the safest way to enjoy 4th of July is leave the fireworks to the professionals. There are several fireworks displays all over the city on the holiday weekend, so pack up the family and a picnic basket and enjoy the festivities.
